UMOJA of Africa – Vision and Mission Statement

MISSION

UMOJA of Africa is a community-centered non-profit organization dedicated to connecting, inspiring, educating, supporting, and empowering African immigrants and refugees. We are committed to addressing the real challenges our community faces, including difficulty in speaking and learning English, raising children to succeed in school, securing meaningful employment, finding stable housing, accessing essential services, navigating transportation, and overcoming cultural barriers.

We also stand beside families in times of grief, providing compassionate support during bereavement. This includes assisting with burial arrangements, helping to cover medical expenses left behind by a loved one, and offering emotional and cultural guidance during difficult times.

In addition, we invest in the next generation by supporting young adults who are preparing for marriage, encouraging them to enter into legal unions that honor both African cultural values and religious principles. By doing so, we strengthen the dignity, stability, and unity of the community.

UMOJA of Africa’s mission is to transform lives—one person, one immigrant, and one refugee at a time—through meaningful connection, cultural preservation, and unwavering support.

VISION

UMOJA of Africa envisions a thriving African immigrant and refugee community in the United States, where individuals and families overcome language, cultural, and socio-economic barriers to achieve stability, dignity, and success. Our vision is to create a welcoming and empowering environment where every African newcomer can access the resources, opportunities, and support needed to build a fulfilling life and contribute meaningfully to society.

Why UMOJA OF AFRICA Collects Donations

UMOJA OF AFRICA collects donations to support African families in the United States who face life’s most difficult challenges without the means to cope. Many members of our community experience the tragic loss of loved ones, sudden financial crises, or emergencies that leave them with nowhere to turn. In these moments, we step in to offer relief — but we can’t do it alone.

Your donation allows us to:

  • Cover funeral and burial expenses for families in need
  • Provide emergency aid such as food, rent, and utilities
  • Support youth through education, mentorship, and life-skills training
  • Offer technology and job-readiness programs for economic empowerment
  • Organize cultural events that promote unity and preserve African heritage

As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, UMOJA OF AFRICA ensures that every contribution is used to uplift and empower our community. When you donate, you become part of a mission to bring hope, dignity, and opportunity to those who need it most.
